High Energy Physics

According to The Office of Science, US Department of Energy, “The field of high energy physics is guided by intertwined science drivers to explore the elementary constituents of matter and energy, the interactions between them, and the nature of space and time”( http://science.energy.gov/hep/).

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign says thatIn high energy physics we seek to understand the nature of space and time, the characteristics of the forces governing the interactions of matter and energy, and the origins of the properties of the elementary particles. Modern theories of particle physics purport to explain the origin of mass, and hope to unify the descriptions of all the forces, including gravity. With the discovery that “normal” matter constitutes only 4% of the total energy in the universe, the study of dark matter and dark energy has attracted great interest” (http://physics.illinois.edu/research/high-energy.asp). The emphasis and orientation varies across universities, some combining it with astronomy and cosmology, while there are many that focus on particle physics.

An MSc High Energy Physics is organized jointly by École Polytechnique (ParisTech) and ETH Zurich.

The University of Barcelona offers an Official Master’s Degree in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology (http://www.uab.cat/web/studying/official-master-s-degrees/general-information/high-energy-physics-astrophysics-and-cosmology-1096480962610.html?param1=1345648395535). The University of Victoria offers an MSc in High Energy Physics with research opportunities at its Victoria Subatomic Physics and Accelerator Research Center (http://www.uvic.ca/science/physics/vispa/research/projects/index.php) and (https://www.uvic.ca/science/physics/prospective/graduate/highenergyphys.php)

University of Sussex offers an MSc in Particle Physics (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/study/pg/2015/taught/1670/31821).

The University of Edinburgh, School of Physics & Astronomy offers MSc programmes in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics (https://higgs.ph.ed.ac.uk/graduate-studies).

Durham University offers an MSc in Particles, Strings and Cosmology (https://www.dur.ac.uk/physics/postgraduate/prospectivestudents/degreesoffered/taught/)

For a Master High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology in Europe look at (http://www.europecoursefind.com/course/19721-Master-High-Energy-Physics–Astrophysics-and-Cosmology).

Radboud University offers a Masters Specialisation in Particle and Astrophysics Explaining the rationale for their choice, the Radboud University says: If you are fascinated by the extreme densities, gravities, and magnetic fields that can be found only in space, or by the formation, evolution, and composition of astrophysical objects, you can focus on the Astrophysics branch within this specialisation. Would you rather study particle interactions and take part in the search for new particles – for example during an internship at CERN – then you can choose a programme full of High Energy Physics. And for students with a major interest in the theories and predictions underlying all experimental work, we offer an extensive programme in mathematical or theoretical physics.
